The Best Flatfile Alternatives in 2026

Flatfile is a hosted data import platform. You define the schema in code, and the person uploads the file to Flatfile, where the platform maps, validates, and transforms the data. A whole team can work on the same import.

Flatfile publishes no price. It prices plans by the team's project volume, and every plan ends in a Talk to sales button. The company renamed itself Obvious in late 2025, and its knowledge base states that the Flatfile product stays in long-term support with the same pricing. Every file uploads to Flatfile's servers, so a team that prohibits third-party processors cannot use it. The whole platform, collaborative editing, multi-step approvals, comments, and audit trails, arrives inside an iframe when your app needs one import screen.

OneSchema and Dromo are the established alternatives, so this list leaves them out.

What Flatfile does well

Flatfile takes large files. Its knowledge base recommends up to one million rows per sheet and points to a streaming JSONL endpoint past that.

Flatfile supports team workflows. A project includes collaborative editing, approvals, comments, version history, and audit trails, and the pricing page says seats are not counted. That matters when several people review the same import.

Its AI runs inside Flatfile's infrastructure, and its security page states that customer-uploaded data does not go to third-party AI vendors.

Flatfile holds the enterprise paperwork. It lists SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, GDPR and CCPA compliance, HIPAA readiness, a DPA, region-specific hosting, and self-managed deployment on the enterprise tier.

Flatfile's internationalization guide lists 26 locale codes across 17 languages.

The five alternatives

Impler

You define columns in a dashboard and can override them in code at runtime. The widget covers upload, header selection, mapping, editing, and validation, while Auto Import can pull files from a source on a schedule.

Impler processes files on a server. With self-hosting, the rows stay on your infrastructure. With Impler's cloud, they are processed on Impler's servers.

The code is MIT-licensed. SDKs cover React, Angular, and plain JavaScript, and there is a Bubble plugin. The importer runs in an iframe. Interface text is configurable. The widget's footer shows Powered by Impler by default, and the Scale plan removes it.

The homepage states support for files up to five million rows. Self-hosting is free apart from infrastructure. Cloud plans are priced by rows, starting with a free tier, then $35 a month for 50,000 rows and $75 for 150,000 when billed yearly. The free tier includes 2,500 rows by the pricing page and 5,000 by the homepage.

ImportOK

You define the schema in code. The person uploads a CSV or Excel file, and ImportOK maps columns, validates and transforms the rows, and opens them in a spreadsheet editor with an error filter and find and replace. Submit sends the finished records to your endpoint.

Its pricing page states that file contents are processed in the browser and never reach ImportOK's servers.

ImportOK ships as a Web Component, with React and Vue packages and examples for Next.js, Angular, and plain JavaScript. Seven interface languages are built in, and you can add your own. Paid plans include AI column mapping and transformations with no branding.

The homepage states support for files up to two million rows. The free npm tester stops at 20 records per import. Pro costs $149 a year and Growth $299 a year with unlimited imports. Scale pricing is available by contact.

ImportCSV

You pass columns or a Zod schema in code. In local mode, ImportCSV parses the person's file in the browser, matches the headers, validates and types the rows, and returns the result to your code. Headless primitives let you build the screens with your own component library.

Nothing leaves the browser in local mode. AI column mapping and plain-English fixes require the backend, which sends column names and sample values to OpenAI. The backend is AGPL-3.0 and can run on your own server with your own OpenAI key or on ImportCSV's hosting.

The frontend is an MIT-licensed React component with a Preact build. The README states there is no Vue or Angular version. The interface is English. The free hosted tier includes ImportCSV branding, while Pro removes it.

The README states support for up to 100,000 rows in the browser, and its large-file guide recommends server-side chunking above 50,000. Local mode is free. Hosted plans start at $0 for 100 imports a month, then $49 for 2,000 imports and $149 for unlimited imports, with higher row limits on each tier.

ExpressCSV

You define the schema in TypeScript. ExpressCSV parses and validates the person's file in the browser and opens it in an AG Grid editor with inline edits, undo and redo, filters, sorting, and valid and invalid tabs. Validation can return one-click fixes, and paid plans add prompt-based transformations that generate JavaScript and apply it to the grid.

The homepage states that user data never touches ExpressCSV's servers. Its DPA names ExpressCSV as a processor for customer import data, and the company offers a signed DPA. AI features send sample values to a model provider.

The importer runs in a full-screen iframe from ExpressCSV's domain. Your backend exchanges a secret key for a short-lived token. Theme variables, custom CSS, fonts, and interface text are configurable.

The free plan covers development, where the importer returns the first 100 rows of a file. Paid plans start at $35 a month for 500 imports, then $80 for 1,000 and $270 for 20,000, with per-import overage pricing.

Updog

You define the schema in code. The person drops a CSV, TSV, Excel, JSON, or XML file, and Updog parses it in the browser, matches columns to your fields, maps values, validates the rows, and opens them in a spreadsheet editor. PDFs, scans, and other formats enter the same flow through a parser you provide. Submit returns the edited rows to your code.

The editor works as a spreadsheet, with typed cell editors, clipboard, a fill handle, find and replace, formulas, filters, sorting, and undo and redo.

Row data never reaches Updog, so Updog is not a data processor and there is no DPA to sign. As of September 2026, Updog has no SOC 2 report or ISO 27001 certificate.

It ships as a React component and a Web Component for Vue, Angular, Svelte, and plain JavaScript, and renders in your page with no iframe. Styling, interface text, and right-to-left layout are configurable, and no plan carries a badge. Updog has no built-in AI. A hook hands the data to your application, which sends it to the model it already uses and returns the answer to the importer.

About one million rows at 20 columns is a practical browser limit, depending on the machine's memory. Updog is free in development and free in production up to 100,000 rows a month. Team costs $100 per production domain per month, or $1,000 a year with two months free, with no row limit.

Embedded importers keep appearing, and basic CSV import is becoming a commodity. Updog tracks the market and publishes a comparison for every product we find on the alternatives page. Which one fits your product is your decision.
